Robert H. Gustine is a 1974 graduate of
Grove City College and a 1978 graduate of Loyola University School of
Law. Admitted to the
Pennsylvania Bar in 1978, Mr. Gustine has been involved in banking, real
estate and estate planning matters throughout his legal career.
Mr. Gustine began his legal career as an
associate attorney for Zewe, Grimes and Curran in Washington,
Pennsylvania, practicing in the fields of real estate closings,
collections and general business matters.
In 1981 he became resident counsel to First National Bank and
Trust Company of Washington, Pennsylvania.
In that position, Mr. Gustine's practice concentrated on real
estate and commercial loan documentation.
He was also responsible for initiating and prosecuting collection
and foreclosure actions, for directing properties through tax sales; and
for execution, replevin and garnishment proceedings.
When First National Bank and Trust
Company merged with Integra Bank in 1985, Mr. Gustine continued as
associate counsel for Integra Bank, where he continued to focus his
practice in the areas of real estate and commercial loan documentation,
workouts, collections, bankruptcy and general creditors' rights. In
1988, Mr. Gustine joined the Pittsburgh law firm of Pietragallo, Bosick
& Gordon, where his practice involved estate planning; property tax
appeals; loan documentation; commercial and residential real estate
transactions; and creditors’ rights - matters such as collection,
foreclosure, execution, replevin and garnishment proceedings. He
remained with that firm until the formation of Hirshberg, Gustine,
Straka and Orie in 1996. He also serves as General Counsel to The
Gustine Company, a prominent real estate brokerage and development firm.
Mr. Gustine has also lectured extensively
on topics involving banking, real estate, corporate law and estate
planning. Between 1985 and
1986, Mr. Gustine was ad hoc professor of Business Law course at
Waynesburg College. Between
1982 and 1988, Mr. Gustine was a frequent lecturer on commercial and
real estate loan documentation for the American Institute of Banking in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From
1985 through the present time, Mr. Gustine is a law instructor to the
Certified Public Accountant Examination Review Course at Robert Morris
College. Topics include
real estate, insurance, business entities, commercial paper and
creditors' rights. Through
the Pennsylvania Land Title Institute, Mr. Gustine has presented
seminars to other counsel for state-approved Continuing Legal Education
(CLE) credits. In these
seminars, Mr. Gustine instructed other attorneys on lien priority;
discharge of liens through judicial sales; mortgage foreclosure;
deficiency judgments; RTC and FDIC requirements; calculation of an upset
bid for a Sheriff's sale or a Marshall's sale; Pennsylvania Realty
Transfer Taxes in Sheriff's or Marshall's deeds; title insurance
considerations where deeds in lieu of foreclosure are utilized; and
Federal income tax considerations in foreclosure.
